Mayor Taposh ordered increased field supervision to tackle waterlogging

In a bid to address the persistent issue of waterlogging in Dhaka, Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has directed councilors to intensify their field supervision. The directive came during the 24th corporation meeting of the second council at the Mayor Hanif Auditorium of Nagar Bhavan, the headquarters of DSCC, on Tuesday.

Highlighting the gravity of the waterlogging problem, Mayor Taposh emphasized the comprehensive efforts undertaken since assuming office. These efforts include extensive infrastructure construction and renovation, waste removal from canals, drains, and sewers. Despite progress in several areas, the mayor acknowledged that much work remains to be done.

Addressing the councilors, Mayor commended their unwavering support in addressing the issue collectively. He urged them to bolster their field-level oversight to ensure the effective delivery of solutions to Dhaka residents‍‍` doorsteps.

"The maintenance of sewers alongside walkways and roads, as well as the restoration of slopes, requires heightened supervision to prevent negligence," Mr. Taposh asserted. He instructed councilors to work closely with the engineering department to expedite repairs and ensure swift drainage.

Moreover, Mayor Taposh disclosed plans for initiating drain cleaning, with the tender process nearing completion. He stressed the importance of meticulous monitoring to prevent any lapses in the cleaning process.

The corporation meeting, chaired by Secretary Akramuzzaman, witnessed active participation from various officials. Mizanur Rahman delivered the welcome speech, while councilors shared their perspectives on diverse issues.

Key officials present at the meeting included Chief Engineer Ashiqur Rahman, General Manager of Transportation Haider Ali, Chief Revenue Officer Ariful Haque, Chief Waste Management Officer Mohammad Nasim Ahmed, Chief Property Officer Kaiser Mohammad Farabi, Chief Urban Planner Sirajul Islam, along with other senior officers and councilors.
