Production at the country’s only state-owned DAP fertiliser plant has been suspended in Anwara, Chattogram due to a shortage of ammonia, a key raw material.

Officials said operations at the factory under DAP Fertilizer Company Limited were halted around Saturday night as supply disruptions made production unsustainable.

Factory authorities said they rely on ammonia from Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited and Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited, both of which have remained shut since early March due to gas shortages.

With no incoming ammonia, officials said the plant cannot resume operations until those facilities restart production.

Located in Anwara, the factory was established under Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation to support balanced fertiliser use in agriculture.

The plant has a combined capacity of 800 tonnes per day, although it typically produces around 600 to 700 tonnes when fully operational.

Officials warned that prolonged disruption could impact fertiliser supply in the agriculture sector if the situation continues.
