At least 297 people including journalists who were injured in an attack on anti-quota protesters allegedly by Chhatra League in Dhaka University have been treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital as of 9pm on Monday, sources at the hospital told the media.
Of them, 12 were admitted to the hospital. However, many others are believed to be hospitalized elsewhere in the capital.
At around 3pm, agitators clashed with the Chhatra League in front of the university`s Bijoy Ekattor Hall. After that, the Chhatra League attacked the protesters in some places of the campus. When the agitators retreated, they were caught and beaten.
Almost all the injured persons are students of various educational institutions including Dhaka University. The Chhatra League claimed that some of them were also injured.
In front of Dhaka Medical College, General Secretary of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front Rafikuzzaman Farid told reporters that hundreds of students were injured in the attack of Chhatra League on students who were agitating for quota reform and came to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. Apart from this, many injured are receiving treatment in other hospitals.
Meanwhile, Chhatra League leaders chased the injured students who were taken to DMCH. Around 5:30pm, a group of Chhatra League leaders and activists went in front of the emergency department of Dhaka Medical and threw them out.
After that, there is an incident of chasing and pelting bricks on the road in front of DMCH.
