Trump nominated for Nobel peace prize over role in Iran–Israel ceasefire

U.S. President Donald J. Trump has been formally nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Republican Congressman Buddy Carter of Georgia, citing Trump’s "extraordinary and historic role" in brokering a ceasefire between Iran and Israel.

According to a report by Fox News, Carter submitted a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee in which he praised Trump’s efforts in halting the recent 12-day armed conflict between the two long-standing adversaries.

The congressman claimed that Trump played a crucial role in preventing further escalation and in restraining Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons—labeling Iran as "the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism."

The Iran–Israel conflict erupted earlier this month after Israeli intelligence alleged that Iran was on the verge of acquiring nuclear capabilities.

Preemptively, Israel launched a military strike on Iranian facilities, triggering days of intense missile and aerial bombardments between the two countries.

Amid the escalating violence, the United States conducted airstrikes on three critical Iranian nuclear sites.

In retaliation, Iran launched a rocket attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar. Notably, Iran issued an advance warning to both the U.S. and Qatari governments, resulting in no reported casualties.

On Monday afternoon, Trump publicly announced that a ceasefire had been reached, effective by nightfall.

Congressman Carter described the resolution as a direct outcome of Trump’s "bold and resolute leadership," which he argued made the ceasefire possible despite widespread skepticism.

“President Trump has taken firm steps to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions and has worked to prevent further warfare in a region known for deep-rooted hostilities and political instability. His leadership aligns with the ideals of peace, diplomacy, and international cooperation—principles the Nobel Peace Prize was established to honor.”

“President Trump has succeeded on both fronts—preventing nuclear proliferation and restoring hope for peace. In recognition of his efforts, I am honored to nominate the 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, for the Nobel Peace Prize.”

This is not Trump’s first nomination for the prestigious award. He has previously been nominated multiple times, although he has never won. Earlier this year, another Republican Congressman, Darrell Issa, also nominated Trump for the 2025 Peace Prize, arguing that his 2024 electoral victory had a “remarkable and positive impact” on global stability.

As per the official Nobel Prize website, a total of 338 individuals and organizations have been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
