3 arrested in connection with piracy of Shakib Khan’s film ‘Taandab’

Since its release, the film Tandav, starring Shakib Khan and directed by Raihan Rafi, has attracted significant audience interest.

Screening in over a hundred theaters nationwide, the movie has seen high demand, with some viewers facing ticket shortages.

Multiplex owners have increased the number of shows for Tandav compared to other films due to its popularity.

However, shortly after release, an HD copy of Tandav was illegally distributed on YouTube and various other platforms, triggering concerns over piracy.

The film’s production company took strict action by filing a legal case under copyright law. Following this, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested three suspects linked to the piracy.

On Wednesday around noon, Nasirul Islam, Joint Commissioner of DMP’s Detective Branch, confirmed the arrests.

The three detained individuals are Tipu Sultan from Noakhali, Sadi Sad from Mymensingh, and Sajedul Islam from Sirajganj.

Tipu Sultan, 35, was apprehended late Tuesday night in Noakhali’s Maizdi area near Mohammadia Hotel, confirmed by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Mohammad Ibrahim.

Tipu is a resident of Kalikapur village in Begumganj upazila. According to police, he admitted involvement in illegally distributing the full HD copy of Tandav through various channels.

He will be transferred to Dhaka for further legal proceedings at Banani Police Station, where the copyright case was filed by producer Shahriar Karim Bhuiyan.

The other two suspects, Sadi Sad and Sajedul Islam, were arrested from Mymensingh and Savar respectively.

Sources from the production company indicated that all three may have had connections with certain theaters, and the police are investigating the exact methods of piracy.

Authorities continue efforts to curb piracy and protect intellectual property rights related to the film industry.
