JN Roy Hospital in North Kolkata has made a controversial decision to stop providing medical treatment to patients from Bangladesh.
The hospital announced this action on Friday, November 29, saying it was a protest against what they called disrespect toward the Indian flag and the reported mistreatment of Hindus in Bangladesh. The news was shared by India’s Economic Times.
Shubhranshu Bhakta, an official at the hospital, explained, "We have issued a notice stating that, starting today, we will no longer admit any Bangladeshi patients. This is because of the anti-India sentiment and the disrespect our country has been shown by Bangladesh."
Bhakta also called on other hospitals in Kolkata to take similar steps and join the protest.
He said, “India played a key role in Bangladesh`s independence, but now we’re seeing a lot of anti-India feelings coming from there. We hope other hospitals will support us and take similar action.”
The move has sparked strong reactions, as it raises questions about the relationship between the two neighboring countries and the ongoing tensions.
