The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has confirmed that no fatalities occurred during a violent clash between students from Kabi Nazrul Government College and Government Shahid Suhrawardy College, who attacked and vandalized Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College (DMRC) in Jatrabari, Dhaka on Monday.

Contrary to the DMP’s statement, DMRC authorities initially claimed that three of their students had been killed in the incident.

In a statement on Monday evening, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Department, urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation regarding the alleged deaths.

Earlier, Ashraf Sameer, Managing Director of DMRC, had issued a statement around 2:30 pm, asserting that three students had died, a claim he later repeated in an interview with BBC Bangla.

The clash, which left at least 20 people injured, began when students from Kabi Nazrul Government College and Government Shahid Suhrawardy College gathered in front of Bahadur Shah Park around 10:00 am, armed with sticks. They then proceeded towards Ray Saheb Bazar, where they joined up with students from other colleges.

The protest was part of a "Mega Monday" program, a response to attacks and vandalism allegedly carried out by DMRC students during the "Super Sunday" event the day before.
