A 14-year old female Madrasa student was held captive by an imam in Comilla’s Chandina upazila for two days. Over the period, she was raped multiple times.
The accused Abul Bashar (50), imam of Noyabari mosque situated at Chandina’s Teerchar was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday (August 2).
Bashar was the minor victim's home tutor who used to teach her Arabic. He lured her into confinement.
RAB arrested the imam from Sadar Dakkhin upazila on Monday evening. The accused, who fled the place after his horrific crimes was on the run.
The minor girl was raped multiple times between July 22 and 23, when she was held captive by Bashar at his home, RAB 11 CPC Company Commander Maj Md Sakib Hossain told the press.
When the girl fell ill after repeated sexual assaults on July 24, the perpetrator left her at his home and ran away.
Later, the girl’s father filed a case with Chandina police station accusing Bashar.
Following his arrest during a special raid on Monday night, Bashar confessed his crime upon primary interrogation, added Major Hossain.
