India’s Bangladesh tour postponed

India’s scheduled cricket tour to Bangladesh in August 2025 has officially been postponed. The much-anticipated series, which was to feature three ODIs and three T20Is, will now take place in September 2026.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the development in an official email statement, noting that after reviewing the international cricket calendar, both the BCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) mutually agreed to reschedule the series. The detailed fixture will be announced at a later date.

India was initially set to arrive in Bangladesh on August 13, and the itinerary had already been finalized months earlier. However, the BCCI was unable to confirm the tour due to a delay in government clearance.

According to reports, the Indian government was hesitant to approve the tour citing political sensitivities. It was indicated that the current diplomatic atmosphere between the two nations is strained, and Indian authorities were concerned that sending the national team to Bangladesh at this time might send an unintended message.

In addition, concerns over security were raised as a key reason for the delay. The BCCI reportedly awaited a final clearance from central authorities regarding the safety of players during the tour.

BCB President Aminul Islam had earlier stated that if the Indian team could not tour in August, the series would be shifted to the next available window. With both boards now settling on September 2026, fans will have to wait longer to witness the India-Bangladesh showdown.

Despite the postponement, the series itself has not been cancelled, offering hope that cricketing ties between the two nations will resume when conditions are deemed favorable.
