8 killed as gunfight held between two groups in Bandarban

In a gunfight between two criminal gangs in Bandarban's Rowangchhari upazila, at least eight persons have died.

The affiliation of the deceased with terrorist organizations could not be identified immediately as the incident took place late Thursday.

Eight persons were killed, according to Abdul Mannan, officer in charge of Rowangchhari Police Station, in a shootout between two groups of criminals of Kuki Chin National Front (KNF) and United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) in the Khamthampara region, reports UNB.

On information, police recovered the bodies around 12:30pm today and sent those to Bandarban Sadar Hospital.

According to the police, this incident can be caused by the organizations of the hilly region based on the spread of dominance among themselves.

Seven of the eight dead have been identified as Van Du Bom, Sang Khum, San Phir Thang Bom, Boy Rem Bom, Jahim Bom, Lal Lian Uyank Bom and Lal Tha Jar Bom, according to media reports.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post run by the KNF, it claimed that 7 of its members were killed in the shootout.
