Houseboats restricted in Watch Tower area of Tanguar Haor

The local administration has imposed a ban on the movement of houseboats in the Watch Tower area of Tanguar Haor in Sunamganj.

The directive aims to protect the natural biodiversity and prevent environmental degradation in the region.

The restriction will remain in effect until further notice. Visitors and operators have been instructed to refrain from any activities that may harm the environment.

The administration has also emphasized that previously issued guidelines for visiting tourist spots in the district must be strictly followed. Legal action will be taken against anyone who violates these instructions.

Tanguar Haor is a sensitive wetland, home to diverse flora and fauna. Typically, houseboats carrying tourists first travel to the Watch Tower area and then proceed to Tekergat, where tourists often spend the night on the boats.

To raise awareness among visitors and ensure the protection of Tanguar Haor’s endangered biodiversity, the administration has recently issued 12 mandatory guidelines for tourists:

1.       Tourists must use designated waterways as determined by the administration.

2.       Life jackets must be worn, and services of local guides must be utilized for safety.

3.       Use of plastic products is prohibited, and wildlife must be observed from a distance. Campfires or open flames are not allowed.

4.       Loud music or high-volume sound systems are strictly forbidden.

5.       No inorganic or plastic waste can be discarded into the water.

6.       Fishing, hunting, or collecting bird eggs is prohibited.

7.       Disruption to the natural behavior of birds and other wildlife is not allowed.

8.       The use of detergents, shampoos, or chemical substances in the water is banned.

9.       Cutting trees, breaking branches, or collecting forest resources is prohibited.

10.   Entry into the core protected zones of the haor is strictly restricted.

11.   Disposal of human-generated waste into the haor is forbidden.

12.   All previously issued safety and environmental guidelines must be followed without exception.

These measures have been introduced to preserve the unique ecosystem of Tanguar Haor and ensure a responsible and sustainable tourism experience for all visitors.
