Humayun Faridi’s impact in the sphere of Film and Arts in this country is unmatched till date. He was born on May 29, 1952 in Narinda, Dhaka.
As a young student, Faridi had to terminate his studies at the University of Dhaka due to the Liberation War of 1971. He then joined the war with other youth and later went on to pursue a degree in Economics from Jahangirnagar University. The theatre club of Jahangirnagar University was Faridi’s breeding ground as an actor. There he met the icnonic dramatist Selim-Al-Deen and was also discovered by dramatist Nasiruddin Yousuff.
Spanning over his career, he has brought to life many unforgettable characters on both screen and theatre. His legendary movies include: Dahan (1985), Ekattorer Jishu (1993), Shyamol Chaya (2004), etc.
He was awarded the Ekushey Padak posthumously in 2018 by the government, the second highest civilian award in Bangladesh.
Humayun Faridi left us too soon at the age of 60, in 2012. He suffered from chronic lungs disease and passed away in his residence in Dhaka.
