BMD warns of possible waterlogging in Dhaka amid heavy rain

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Monday warned that parts of the capital could experience temporary waterlogging as heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over the next 24 hours.

In a rainfall advisory issued at 11:00 am, the weather office said active monsoon conditions are likely to bring 44 to 88 millimetres of rain, with some areas receiving more than 88 millimetres, across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

The BMD said the anticipated downpours could trigger temporary waterlogging in several parts of the Dhaka metropolitan area.

According to the weather office, Ambagan in Chattogram recorded the country‍‍`s highest rainfall over the previous 24 hours ending at 6:00 am Monday, receiving 174 millimetres of rain.

During the same period, 97 millimetres of rainfall was recorded in Dhaka.

The BMD also forecast a slight drop in daytime temperatures across the country, while night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
