The interim government has extended special magistracy powers to the Bangladesh Air Force and Bangladesh Navy to enhance law and order.
A gazette notification, issued on Monday and signed by the Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, amends a previous directive that granted similar powers to the Bangladesh Army.
This authority applies nationwide, including in the capital, and is now available to all commissioned officers of the armed forces ranked captain and above.
On September 17, the public administration ministry announced that eligible army officers could serve as executive magistrates for a period of 60 days.
The latest notification expands these magisterial powers to the Air Force and Navy, allowing them to address various offenses under specific sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 (CRPC).
