Cars with odd-even numbers to hit Dhaka streets on alternate days?

In a  major plan involving the reduction of traffic jam in the capital, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam has they, if authorised, would introduce a system where private cars with even and odd numbers would be allowed to run on different days of a month.

He was inaugurating Bangabandhu Mukto Mancha at Uttara sector 7 to ease traffic congestion of Dhaka city on Saturday, reports The Daily Star.

In the system, the cars which have even numbers would be allowed to run on even days of a month while cars holding odd numbers would be allowed to run on all odd days of a month, he added.

A study, Atiqul suggested, is necessary to be carried out to know about the volume of traffic of different roads.

Stressing the need for proper atmospheres for the growth of mental and physical health of children and juveniles, the mayor said, "It is our duty to ensure a healthy and beautiful environment and livable city for them".

The mayor said DNCC has built this open stage for the children and youth of Uttara areas for their cultural activities.

The mayor stressed the need for a branch of Shilpakala academy and Shishu academy in the areas for cultural growth of children and youth of the areas.
