Police have recovered three bodies from the water tank of an under-construction building in the capital’s Bashundhara Residential Area, while one more person was rescued in critical condition and taken to hospital.
The incident took place between 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm on Saturday, said Rakibul Hasan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Vatara Police Station. The identities of the victims are yet to be confirmed.
According to OC Rakibul, police were alerted through the national emergency hotline 999 after four men entered the water tank of a building on Road 14, Block ‘E,’ Plot 4, and failed to come out. Responding to the call, police and locals discovered that three had already died inside the tank, while one was alive but severely ill.
The victims were construction workers engaged at the site. “They entered the tank to remove bamboo and poles used in the construction. The ground floor of the building has been completed, and work on the first floor was about to begin,” the OC said.
He added that efforts are underway to ascertain the identities of the deceased workers.
