Bangladesh becomes the Vice President of OIC

Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said that Bangladesh has been elected as the vice president of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). 

He informed this to the media on Friday (March 17) through a message. 

The 49th Conference of Foreign Ministers, which had 57 members was held in Africa at Nouakchott, Mauritania, on Thursday and Friday (March 17), where Abdul Momen led the Bangladesh delegation.

The foreign minister said that Bangladesh has also become a member of the Human Rights Council of the OIC. Also within Asia, Turkey and Iran have been elected members of the Islamic Human Rights Council The conference's organizer, Maurtania, was elected as OIC president. Apart from Bangladesh, Palestine and Nigeria have also been elected as vice presidents of the organization.

In the speech given at the conference during the pandemic, Foreign Minister Dr. Momen said about the progress of the economy of Bangladesh under the prudent leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina . He also expressed concern over the rise of Islamophobia in various parts of the world as well as the rise of terrorism.

Abdul Momen expects the active role of OIC member countries in solving the Rohingya crisis.
