Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has received approval to purchase and use sound grenades and tear gas shells.

This decision was made during a meeting of the advisory council at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday, January 20.

Home Affairs Adviser, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, explained that while lethal weapons have always been available at the border, the BGB didn’t have access to sound grenades or tear gas shells until now.

“Many times, people have asked why BGB didn’t use sound grenades or tear gas. The answer is simple: they didn’t have them. But now, we have given them the green light to buy these items, and they will be getting them soon,” the adviser said.

The adviser also mentioned that the decision about which weapons to use will depend on the specific situation at the border.

"Right now, the situation at the border is under control, and there are no major issues," he added.

When asked about India’s possession of sound grenades, the adviser assured, "India also has sound grenades, and there’s no reason for them to take offense.”
