Dainik Bhorer Kagoj, a well-known newspaper in Bangladesh, has officially stopped its publication.

The owners announced the closure through a formal notice, which has brought an end to the daily’s operations.

On Monday, January 20, multiple journalists from Bhorer Kagoj confirmed the news of the closure.

For the past few days, some employees had been protesting, demanding that their wages be aligned with the Eighth Wage Board and asking for their outstanding dues to be paid from the time they were hired.

The protests escalated on Sunday, when a group of journalists, along with union leaders and some outsiders, held a demonstration in front of Bhorer Kagoj‍‍`s main office.

In response, the owners issued a notice the following day, stating the decision to close the headquarters.

According to the notice, the decision was made under Section 12 of the Labor Law 2006, as the situation had gone beyond the control of the management.

A senior journalist from the newspaper mentioned that no one had any pending salary dues. However, some employees were being paid as per the Eighth Wage Board, while others, who were hired under consolidated agreements, were now demanding the same Wage Board benefits.

This is what caused the main conflict.
