A woman was beaten to death and two others were injured in an attack allegedly over a land dispute in the Dhaka`s Hazaribagh early today.
The deceased was identified as Rowshan Ara, 60, a resident of Kalunagar Beribadh area, reports The Daily Star.
The victim`s daughter Runa Akhter said her husband, sub-inspector Aminur Rahman, bought around 18 decimals of land in Kalunagar jointly with one Abdur Rashid two years ago. However, Rashid had recently been trying to take over the entire property, which led to frequent disputes, she alleged.
Runa claimed that around 12:30am, Rashid along with five to six men forcefully entered their house and beat up her mother, brother Liton, 40, and her 10-year-old son Rohan with iron rods and sticks.
Rowshan was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 3:15am in a critical condition, where doctors declared her dead. Liton and Rohan received primary treatment there.
Runa said her husband were outside during the incident.
Hazaribagh Police Station`s Officer-in-charge Md Saiful Islam said that there had been an ongoing dispute between the two families over land and personal matters.
Several men attacked Aminur Rahman`s residence last night, leading to the death of a woman, he also said.
The body was sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy. Filing of a case is underway, police said.
Police detained five people in connection with the incident, the OC said.
