Bangladesh has requested Canada to return Bangabandhu’s self-confessed killer Noor Chowdhury who is living there, by an “alternative system” if Canada’s law does not allow it.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday made this request in a courtesy meeting with Lilly Nicholls, Canada’s High Commissioner in Dhaka, at the conference room of the Ministry of Law at the Secretariat in the capital.
Later, the Law Minister informed the reporters about the courtesy meeting. Anisul Huq told reporters that there was a discussion about returning Noor Chowdhury, the accused in the Bangabandhu murder case.
Law Minister said, `I have requested her to find an alternative way to return Noor as sheltering a killer is violation of human rights.’
`The Canadian High Commissioner in Dhaka informed me that under Canadian law, they can’t deport a person to that country sentenced to death. In reply, I told her that harboring a murderer is a violation of human rights,’ Law Minister added.
