Kathin Chibor Dan: Army chief urges hill tracts residents to work for peace, harmony

The Army Chief, General Waker-uz-Zaman, urged both the hill tracts people and Bengali residents for working together to promote peace, harmony, and a beautiful environment in the hill districts.

He made this call during a visit to the International Buddhist Monastery in Merul Badda are of Dhaka, on Friday (November 8), while attending the Kathin Chibor Daan and National Buddhist Religious Conference-2024, organized by the Bangladesh Buddhist Federation, said a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate.

Addressing as chief guest the four-star General of Bangladesh Army emphasized the army‍‍`s readiness to take necessary actions to ensure the peaceful celebration of religious festivals by all communities, maintaining communal harmony. 

He also called on people to work together for a peaceful coexistence and to extend cooperation for the progress of the country. 

Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to the distinguished diplomats from foreign missions in Dhaka for their significant role in Bangladesh‍‍`s advancement.

The army chief specifically appealed to the residents of the hill tracts—both indigenous and Bengali people—to actively contribute to creating a peaceful and harmonious environment in the region. 

He also highlighted the importance of developing tourism in the hill tracts, preserving local languages, cultures, and biodiversity. 

He expressed hope that with the establishment of more schools, colleges, and universities in the region, local students would be able to spread their skills both within the country and abroad.

The army chief also extended his heartfelt congratulations to everyone on the occasion of Kathin Chibor Daan and thanked all those who had attended the event from various parts of Bangladesh, including the hill districts.

He thanked the Buddhist Federation for its cooperation in ensuring the peaceful celebration of Buddhist events across the country, with support from the army and other law enforcement agencies.
