Nobel Laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus urged the nation to prevent further violence, stating, "Place your trust in me—there will be no more attacks on anyone from now on."
"If you choose not to heed my words, please relieve me, and I will focus on my own work," during a press conference at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka upon his arrival from France.
Addressing the youth, Professor Yunus declared, "The country is now in your hands. You have liberated it, and it is your responsibility to rebuild it according to your vision. Your hard work and creativity must be harnessed."
He became emotional as he recalled Abu Sayed, one of the first casualties in police firing during the student movement, acknowledging Sayed`s bravery which inspired the youth to persist.
Dr. Yunus emphasized, "The freedom you have achieved must be safeguarded at all costs. The benefits of this freedom should reach every corner of the country, or it will be meaningless."
On the law-and-order situation, he stated, "Chaos and violence hinder progress. Attacks on people are part of a larger conspiracy. We must protect every citizen and guide anyone who strays back to the right path."
He pledged to restore public trust in the governance system.
