Muslims in Bangladesh are commemorating Hazrat Imam Hussain‍‍`s (RA) martyrdom today by observing the holy day of Ashura with devotion and sanctity.

This day is observed as Public Holiday.

On this day in the Hijri year 61, Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), embraced martyrdom by Yazid‍‍`s forces on Karbala Maidan in Iraq in order to preserve the Prophet‍‍`s teachings. He was accompanied by his family and 72 supporters.

Shia community members in Bangladesh had prepared plenty of activities to celebrate the day, including a traditional Tajia procession in the capital that began at Imambara Husaini Dallan in Old Dhaka.

To ensure that the Ashura is observed smoothly, sufficient safety precautions have been put in place around the Husaini Dalan.

Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television, and private television channels will broadcast special programs emphasizing the significance of the day.
