Today, Tuesday, May 21, marks the birthday of Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby, son of Sheikh Rehana, the younger sister of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and daughter of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bobby was born on this day in 1980 in the United Kingdom.
Bobby’s father, Shafiq Ahmed Siddiq, has served as a professor at various universities both in Bangladesh and abroad. Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby is the eldest of three siblings. He earned his Bachelor`s degree in Governance and History and his Master`s degree in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. His younger sister, Tulip Siddiq, is a member of the British Parliament.
Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby oversees the Awami League’s research organization, the Centre for Research and Information (CRI), as a trustee. Through CRI’s initiative `Young Bangla,` he works to empower and inspire the youth.
Bobby played a pivotal role in bringing the life of the Father of the Nation to the new generation through the publication of the graphic novel `Mujib.` Following the release of Bangabandhu`s unfinished autobiography, Bobby transformed the book into a graphic novel to present his eventful life to children, teenagers, and young adults in a new format.
In 2023, on the historic March 7, Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby paid tribute to the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on behalf of the Prime Minister, who was on an official visit to Qatar at the time. This act sparked widespread discussion and speculation about Bobby’s entry into politics. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed the matter, stating, "Bobby’s act of laying flowers on March 7 had no political motive. He did it as a family member."
Sheikh Hasina further remarked, “Our two sisters have five children. They are always working for you. They are involved in all the research activities, including CRI. We have built Digital Bangladesh, and they have contributed to creating today’s skilled workforce. They are working on autism. They do not work with political ambitions; they work for the country and its people.”
