The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs is about to officially recognize the brave souls who participated in the July Uprising, with ‘July Martyrs’ and ‘July Warriors’ set to receive their due acknowledgment.
According to Faruk-e-Azam, the Ministry’s adviser, certificates and identity cards will be distributed to these individuals in the coming days, with a formal announcement expected soon.
Speaking to the media after a session with the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief at the District Commissioners’ Conference on February 17, Faruk-e-Azam explained that the recognized ‘July Warriors’ would receive financial assistance based on their categories.
These warriors will be placed in three distinct categories, each with its own set of allowances:
- Category A: One-time allowance of 500,000 Taka and a monthly allowance of 20,000 Taka.
- Category B: One-time allowance of 300,000 Taka and a monthly allowance of 15,000 Taka.
- Category C: These warriors will receive rehabilitation support and priority for government jobs.
On the matter of future governments, Faruk-e-Azam expressed hope that the next government would continue to honor the spirit of the July Uprising.
He said, “The government that follows this one will also uphold the spirit of the July Uprising. We expect that the next government will continue to prioritize the issues of the July Martyrs and Warriors.”
Additionally, the adviser revealed that the National Liberation War Council (JAMUKA) has been restructured, and the definition of a freedom fighter is being updated.
Faruk-e-Azam emphasized that freedom fighters would be verified district by district, and any fake freedom fighters would be identified and brought under the law.
This step is seen as an important move to honor those who sacrificed so much for the country’s freedom while ensuring that only true freedom fighters are recognized and supported.
