A number of people were injured in a brawl that broke out between the students of Dhaka University and Ansar members at the Secretariat on Sunday night.

The clash started after 9 pm, following reports that key figures from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement including Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah are under siegeby the Ansar personnel at the Secretariat.

As the news spread, students from several halls of Dhaka University gathered at the Raju Bhashkorjo on campus. In protest, they marched towards the Secretariat area, demanding the release of the coordinators.

The situation quickly escalated as a confrontation broke out between the students and Ansar men. Both sides engaged in back-and-forth chases, leading to violent clashes. The police tried to control the situation.

By 9:45 pm, the Ansar members were forced to retreat as the Army appeared at the scene. The protesting students then positioned themselves in front of the National Press Club, adjacent to the Secretariat.

Earlier in the day, Ansar members agreed to suspend their ongoing protest and return to work following discussions with Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam.

The announcement came after a delegation of Ansar personnel, led by Nasir Miah, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Ansar Members, met with the adviser at the secretariat to voice their grievances.

A preliminary decision was made during the meeting to revoke the six-month rest rule currently imposed on Ansar personnel, a key demand of the protesters.

Regarding the demand for the nationalisation of their jobs, the home adviser assured the delegation that the matter would be "considered based on the report of the recommendation committee."
