UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned on Monday that unequal educational opportunities were rapidly separating the world.
"Education is in a deep crisis. Instead of being the great enabler, education is fast becoming the great divide," Guterres told the summit.
He warned that conflicts have further disrupted classrooms and that the Covid-19 pandemic has had a terrible effect on learning, putting underprivileged students without access to technology at a distinct disadvantage.
Despite concerns about the state of the global economy, Guterres urged all nations to prioritize increasing spending per student.
