Traveler’s planning to go to Saudi Arabia for Hajj and Umrah will now need to get the meningitis vaccine, according to a new rule introduced by the Saudi authorities.
Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka has also made it clear that this vaccine is now required for all passengers traveling for Hajj or Umrah.
The new rule, which will start on February 10, applies to everyone traveling to Saudi Arabia on Hajj, Umrah, or visit visas.
However, it does not apply to people traveling on work visas.
Group Captain Kamrul Islam, the Executive Director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, sent a letter to airlines and airport stakeholders on Monday, informing them about the new rule.
According to the letter, pilgrims must get the meningitis vaccine at least 10 days before their trip and keep the vaccination certificate with them during their journey.
However, children under one year old do not need the vaccine.
Also, if someone has had the meningitis vaccine within the past three years, they won’t need to take it again.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia has directed airlines to make sure the new rule is followed starting February 10.
