In an attempt to support families during Ramadan, Ali Imam Majumder, the Food and Land Advisor to the interim government, announced that 50 lakh families will receive rice at the affordable rate of 30 Taka per kg under the Food Friendly Program.
He shared this announcement after a meeting with District Commissioners held today, marking the second day of the ongoing conference.
Majumder outlined the details of the initiative, saying, "Several programs have been planned for Ramadan. In March and April, 3 lakh tons of rice will be distributed through the Food Friendly Program. Each month, 1.5 lakh tons will be provided. As part of this effort, 50 lakh families will receive 15 kg of rice, at the price of 30 Taka per kg."
Majumder emphasized that ensuring the rice reaches the people in the right way is crucial.
"In order to supervise the program properly, Magistrates will be monitoring the process in the field in both Dhaka and Chittagong metropolitan areas," he explained.
The Food Advisor also addressed concerns about the role of the administration in elections.
Reflecting on past elections, he said, "The good elections in our country have been conducted by the administration, while the bad ones were also managed by the same system."
He added, "The way the administration is directed is how it operates. We are hopeful that the upcoming elections under the interim government will be a fair and successful one, led by the administration."
Majumder also touched on land management issues, saying that 80% of the work for digital land registration (e-Namjari) will be completed by March 10.
"The digitalization of land mutation work is also underway," he confirmed.
He assured the public that the interim government is committed to stopping land-related harassment and has instructed District Commissioners to provide their full support in addressing these matters.
The Food Friendly Program is expected to significantly help families during Ramadan, while the digitalization of land services aims to bring more transparency and ease for the public.
