Umama Fatema, former spokesperson of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has announced a full panel under the banner of Independent Student Unity for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election. Fatema, a student of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, had earlier confirmed her candidacy for the position of Vice President (VP).
The announcement of the remaining candidates was made on Thursday afternoon at the base of the “Aparajeyo Bangla” sculpture on the university campus.
From the panel, former president of the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA) and student of the Department of Anthropology (2016–17 session) Al-Sadi Bhuiyan has been nominated for the post of General Secretary (GS). Jahid Ahmed will contest for the position of Assistant General Secretary (AGS).
Among the other nominated candidates in the panel are Numan Ahmad Chowdhury for Liberation War and Democratic Movements Affairs, Mominul Islam (Bidhan) for Science and Technology, and Nafiz Bashar Alif for International Affairs. Surmi Chakma has been nominated for the post of Common Room, Reading Room and Cafeteria Secretary, while Anid Hasan will contest for Literature and Cultural Affairs. For Research and Publication, the nomination went to Siam Ferdous Emon, whereas Md. Sadiquzzaman Sarkar has been chosen for Sports. The panel has also put forward Md. Rafiz Khan for Student Transport, Tanvir Samad for Social Services, and Rupaiya Shrestha Tanchangya for Career Development. In addition, Israt Jahan Nijhum will run for Health and Environment, and Nusrat Jahan Nisu for Human Rights and Legal Affairs.
Additionally, the panel announced candidates for DUCSU Member positions, including Nowrin Sultana Toma, Abid Abdullah, Boby Biswas, Md. Shakil, Md. Hasan Jubayer (Tufan), Abdullah Al Mubin (Rifat), Orko Barua, Abir Hasan, Newaz Sharif Arman, Md. Muktarul Islam (Ridoy), Hasibur Rahman, Rafiul Haque Rafi, Md. Sajib Hossain, and Sadekur Rahman Sani.
