Abusive jailor appointed head of prisoner torture probe

A three-member inquiry committee has been constituted in the case of brutal torture of a prisoner named Runa Laila in Kashimpur Women‍‍`s Central Jail. However, Jailor Farhana Aktar has been made the head of the committee under whose direction the torture was carried out. Abdul Karim, the brother of victim Runa Laila, was shocked about this.

Abdul Karim told The Report.live, "Jailor Farhana herself stood on the spot and gave instructions to assault my sister. For this I have submitted a written complaint to Gazipur District Commissioner, Anisur Rahman. So why was the accused made the head of the investigation committee? I do not accept this investigation committee. I will again approach the District Commissioner regarding the matter."

The three-member investigative team constituted on the District Commissioner‍‍`s directions regarding torture in Kashimpur Jail includes Sergeant Inspector Shahanur Rahman and Jailor Farzana Akter, along with the Jailor Farhana Akter.

The prisoner‍‍`s relatives complained that how did someone became the head of the investigation committee who directed the torture. Regarding this Jailor Farhana Aktar told The Report.live on mobile phone, "It is the order of my superiors. I have been asked to report as the head of the inquiry committee. I have also submitted the report to supervisor. I don‍‍`t know why I was made the head of the inquiry committee." 

At one point, she said, "I am not worthy of this chair. It was not right to put me in this position. I was at peace while I worked in small prisons. I requested a transfer. I‍‍`m going to leave from here." 

Regarding the investigation committee, Senior Jail Superintendent (Acting) Obaidur Rahman said that an investigation committee has been formed of three members. Jailor Farhana has been made the head of the inquiry committee there. According to the complainant, Jailor Farhana herself is involved in prisoner torture, so how can she become the head of the investigation committee of that incident?" The Jail Superintendent said to such a question, “There is a Jail Superintendent and a Jailor in a prison. In this case there are two deputy Jailors. But, one of them is on maternity leave and the other is Deputy Jailor Tayyiba. She is also accused. I have to form an investigation committee with someone as the chairman.”

In this regard, the brother of victim Runa Laila, Abdul Karim said, “Today my sister was supposed to be brought to the court, but she was not presented. It is said that my sister is ill and hospitalized. So, what happened that she had to be admitted to the hospital? This proves that my sister has been tortured terribly.‍‍”
