Ahead of the January 7 parliamentary elections, the home ministry has issued an outright ban on license holders carrying and displaying firearms until January 9.
In this regard, a gazette was released, signed by the ministry`s deputy secretary, Israt Jahan.
The notification stated that it has been decided to hold the next national elections "in a free, fair, and peaceful manner" and that those who disobey the order will face legal actions.
The special branch of the police has a database that indicates there are 50,310 permissible weapons in the country. Of these weapons, 5,084 are owned by institutions and 45,226 are in the hands of private individuals.
