High court issues rule on formation of special force for courts

The High Court has issued a rule seeking an explanation as to why a specialized security force named “Court Security Force (CSF)” should not be formed under the judiciary to ensure the safety of court premises, including the Supreme Court and all other courts across the country.

The bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Syed Zahid Mansur issued the rule on Monday following a writ petition filed earlier this year.

The petition, filed on February 12 by Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan, a resident of Narsingdi, called for the creation of a dedicated court security unit to safeguard judges, court officials, and the general public within court premises. The petitioner personally presented arguments in favor of the writ.

Deputy Attorney Generals Shafiqul Rahman and Tanim Khan represented the state during the hearing.

The rule now opens the door for further legal examination of whether existing court security measures are adequate, and whether the judiciary should have its own specialized force to address evolving security needs in the judicial system.
