Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidates are leading in three out of four parliamentary constituencies in Kushtia district, according to unofficial vote counts from the 13th national election.
Early results show that a candidate backed by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party is ahead in only one seat, while Jamaat contenders hold leads in the remaining constituencies.
In Kushtia-1 (Daulatpur), former BNP lawmaker Reza Ahmed Bachchu Mollah is in front with 122,605 votes after results from 91 of the 135 polling centres were counted. His closest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Belal Uddin, secured 61,288 votes.
Jamaat candidates are leading in the other three seats. In Kushtia-2 (Mirpur–Bheramara), Md Abdul Gafur of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami polled 86,607 votes, while BNP’s Barrister Ragib Rouf Chowdhury received 63,345 votes based on counts from 76 of 170 centres.
In Kushtia-3 (Sadar), Jamaat candidate Mufti Amir Hamza took the lead with 79,440 votes, ahead of BNP contender Engineer Md Zakir Hossain Sarkar, who received 53,871 votes from 61 of 142 polling stations.
In Kushtia-4 (Kumarkhali–Khoksa), Jamaat’s Md Afzal Hossain was leading with 31,592 votes, while BNP candidate Syed Mehedi Ahmed Rumi secured 25,132 votes after results from 31 of 152 centres were compiled.
The figures suggest a strong performance by Jamaat-e-Islami in Kushtia district. However, the Election Commission has not yet released official results, and counting is still underway at several polling centres.
