In a daring daylight robbery, a group of men dressed in Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) uniforms intercepted and stole Tk 10.8 million from a cash distributor of a leading mobile financial service in Dhaka’s Uttara area on Saturday morning.
The incident took place at 8:52 AM on Road 12 of Sector 13 in Uttara, according to police officials.
Police reported that the targeted individuals were employees of a distribution partner for a mobile financial service company.
They were transporting a cash bag on a motorcycle from the company owner`s residence to their office when a black microbus abruptly blocked their path.
Security camera footage from the area shows two men riding a motorcycle carrying the cash bag when a black microbus appeared from the opposite direction and stopped them.
One of the motorcyclists attempted to flee with the bag, but was quickly chased down by men wearing RAB jackets. The robbers were seen carrying small firearms during the incident.
Following the robbery, law enforcement authorities began a prompt investigation to track down the perpetrators.
Police officials confirmed they are working to verify whether the attackers were genuine members of the RAB or were using the uniforms as a disguise.
When asked about the incident later in the day, the Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury remarked that anyone involved in such crimes, even if affiliated with law enforcement, would not be spared.
"Sometimes, criminals wear RAB or police uniforms to commit crimes, but they will also be brought to justice," he said.
Authorities are continuing their investigation using video footage and other intelligence sources to identify and capture those responsible.
