BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed that the Election Commission's (EC) letter inviting BNP to talks was nothing more than the government's most recent plan to arrange another election without allowing voters to exercise their right to vote.
"Has anyone ever voted before? They (the government) will restart that act. This time, there is a lot of pressure since foreigners are coming up with new strategies because they claim that the voting as it was last time won't be approved this time. As part of the most recent plan, the Election Commission wrote to us," he stated.
Fakhrul made the remarks while speaking at a discussion arranged by BNP at Mohanagar Natya Mancha, marking the Independence Day.
He said their party’s standing committee will hold a meeting on Monday and take a decision on the EC’s letter.
Earlier on Thursday, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal sent a demi-official letter to the BNP secretary general for taking part in a views-exchange meeting on the next national election.
