Chhatra Dal rally marking July Uprising anniversary begins at Shahbagh

The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the BNP, has begun a rally at Shahbagh in Dhaka on Sunday (August 3) to commemorate the anniversary of the historic July mass uprising.

The event officially began around 2:30 PM with an inaugural speech by JCD Central President Rakibul Islam, who declared, “No force in Bangladesh can stop Chhatra Dal.”

In his address, Rakibul further warned that those conspiring to destabilize the country could face strong resistance, adding, “If Tarique Rahman, the organizational guardian of Chhatra Dal, gives the order, our activists can paralyze the entire country.”

BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to address the rally virtually as the chief guest, while BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is expected to speak as a special guest. Several central BNP leaders are also present and will address the gathering.

The stage, set up at Shahbagh facing the TSC intersection, is already occupied by senior leaders including BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury and Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin, along with former Chhatra Dal leaders like Kazi Rawnakul Islam and Iqbal Hossain Shyamal.

The rally is being presided over by JCD President Rakibul Islam and conducted by General Secretary Nasir Uddin.

From the morning, leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal from various units across Dhaka and districts nationwide have gathered at the venue.

Participants are wearing national and party flags tied around their heads and foreheads, along with bands bearing the JCD logo.

Many were seen waving JCD and BNP flags, chanting slogans like “Mother and soil are calling, Tarique Rahman is coming,” “Tarique Rahman will return to Bangladesh in glory,” and “We are not afraid, we are still on the streets.”
