As part of an ongoing nationwide special operation, police have arrested 1,353 individuals across the country, including in the capital Dhaka, within a 24-hour period.
According to a press statement issued on Sunday (August 3) by AIG (Media) Enamul Haque Sagar of the Police Headquarters, among those arrested, 822 were wanted in various criminal cases while 531 were detained for their alleged involvement in other offenses.
The statement noted that on Saturday (August 2), coordinated operations were conducted by police units throughout the country, resulting in the large number of arrests.
During the raids, law enforcement authorities also seized a range of weapons, including a locally made revolver, two single-barrel guns, four rounds of ammunition, a locally made LG (light gun), a Burmese-style knife, a Chinese axe, and a pair of handcuffs.
The Police Headquarters added that the special drive to curb crime across the country remains ongoing, and legal proceedings are underway against the detainees.
