BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the entire country is now looking ahead to the national election expected in February.
He made the remark on Sunday (August 3) while addressing a rally organized by the BNP’s student wing, Chhatra Dal, at Shahbagh in Dhaka, marking the anniversary of the July Uprising.
Speaking at the rally, Fakhrul alleged that "fascist Hasina" and her associates have taken refuge in a neighboring country and are conspiring from there. “We must face and defeat these conspiracies,” he said.
He added, “A new sun has risen—one that will illuminate us all. We now have an opportunity to rebuild Bangladesh anew.”
Reflecting on the events of the past year, the BNP leader said, “Today is a day of both joy and sorrow. On this very day a year ago, we lost many student brothers and sisters. And not just in those 36 days—many gave their lives before that as well. Their sacrifices all had one goal: to establish a democratic Bangladesh.”
Calling for unity, Fakhrul urged, “We must all come together and pledge that fascist Hasina and her people will never again be allowed to destroy this country.”
He also recalled the sacrifices made during the July movement, citing the deaths of students like Abu Sayeed from Rangpur and Wasim from Chattogram, along with hundreds of others.
“Over the past 15 years, many have given their lives. Our students have created this opportunity to build a new Bangladesh. They want good governance, freedom, and employment,” Fakhrul said.
