Rifat Rashid resigns from Democratic Student Union, committee formed to investigate the dispute

The newly launched Bangladesh Democratic Student Union was hit with an unexpected shake-up just one day after its debut. 

Senior Member Secretary Rifat Rashid has resigned from his position within the central committee, as revealed during a press conference held on Thursday, February 27, at Dhaka University‍‍`s Madhur Canteen.

The leaders of the student organization announced the resignation during the event, catching many off guard. 

Although Rifat Rashid had initially been appointed to the senior role, it was confirmed that he had submitted his resignation, leaving his position vacant.

In addition to addressing Rashid’s departure, the organization used the press conference to disclose their response to a recent incident that occurred during the official launch. 

The incident involved a dispute, and to investigate whether the situation was premeditated, the organization formed a three-member committee.

Speaking on the matter, Abu Bakar Majumder, the Convener of the Bangladesh Democratic Student Union‍‍`s central committee, stated that the investigation would be conducted by Tahmid Al Mudassir Chowdhury, Tauhid Siam, and Naeem. 

The committee has been given a deadline of seven working days to submit their findings. 

Based on the investigation’s outcome, the organization will take appropriate disciplinary action against those involved in the altercation.

During the press conference, the leaders also announced the formation of a 205-member convening committee. 

This committee includes a significant number of students from universities other than Dhaka University, which reflects the organization’s effort to broaden its base beyond the capital. 

The leadership shared their plans to expand further by establishing committees across the country in the coming days.

As the investigation proceeds and the organization prepares for future expansion, the resignation of a senior member like Rifat Rashid raises questions about the internal dynamics of the newly formed Democratic Student Union.
