Following his much-discussed marriage with Bangladeshi actress Rafiath Rashid Mithila, acclaimed Tollywood director Srijit Mukherji is now rumored to be romantically involved with actress Sushmita Chatterjee.
Speculation surrounding Srijit and Mithila’s relationship status has been ongoing for months, especially since the couple has not been seen together in public for a long time. While neither party has confirmed a separation, their growing distance has been widely noted.
Now, whispers in the Tollywood industry suggest that Srijit may have moved on—with Sushmita.
Srijit and Sushmita recently worked together on his upcoming film Laho Gouranger Naam Re. During the shooting in Puri, the two reportedly spent significant time together. Sushmita shared a photo on social media from the beach, showing her and Srijit in what many interpreted as an intimate moment. The post has sparked rumors that the director and actress are more than just colleagues.
Fuel was added to the fire when the duo attended the premiere of Dear Maa, starring Jaya Ahsan, together. They arrived holding hands and stayed close throughout the event. Witnesses said Srijit was unwilling to let Sushmita out of his sight, and the two appeared very comfortable with each other.
When asked about their relationship status, Srijit smiled and turned to Sushmita, saying, “Sushmita, what do you want to say?” The actress laughed and replied, “What can I say? We’re very close friends. We`ve become quite close in a short span of time. I don’t want to respond to what people are saying or writing.”
Asked whether he has taken on the role of a mentor in Sushmita’s life, Srijit dismissed the idea, saying, “Mentor is a very high-end word. We share songs we like, go out to eat, and talk about films. She makes me eat sushi, I get her to try Chinese food.”
Sushmita echoed his sentiment, saying, “People gossip unnecessarily. But I don’t understand why I should hide a friendship that enriches my life. If we had something to hide, would we show up at premieres together? Be out in public like this?”
Srijit has previously been linked romantically with actresses like Swastika Mukherjee and Ritabhari Chakraborty, though those relationships didn’t last. Still, he reportedly maintains cordial ties with his exes.
While Srijit and Sushmita insist they are just good friends, their growing closeness and frequent public appearances are keeping the gossip mills running in Tollywood.
