The third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (national parliament) is scheduled to begin on August 27. To ensure the session proceeds smoothly, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned rallies, gatherings, processions, demonstrations and other activities in and around the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban (Parliament building).
The ban was announced in a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Tuesday.
According to the notice, the restrictions have been imposed to maintain peace and order in and around the Parliament complex in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar during the session.
Under the restrictions, the carrying of all types of weapons, explosives, hazardous and polluting substances will be prohibited in the designated areas from midnight on August 26 until further notice. Rallies, gatherings, processions and demonstrations of any kind will also be prohibited.
The restricted area includes the stretch from the Mohakhali Crossing on Mymensingh Road through the Old Airport to the Banglamotor Crossing. It also covers the area from the western end of Banglamotor Link Road to the SAARC Fountain on Hotel Sonargaon Road; from the eastern end of Panthapath through the Green Road intersection to Farmgate; and from Shyamoli Crossing on Mirpur Road to the intersection with Road 16 (formerly Road 27) in Dhanmondi.
The restrictions will also cover the area from the Rokeya Sarani intersection through the Old 9th Division (Aircraft) Crossing to Bijoy Sarani and Parjatan Crossing; from the eastern end of Indira Road to the western end of Manik Mia Avenue; the restricted area of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban; and all roads and lanes within these boundaries.
The notice said the order will remain in effect until the third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad concludes.
