Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman collapsed twice while addressing a party rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Friday afternoon, but continued his speech while seated on stage.
According to eyewitnesses, the first incident occurred around 5:20pm as Shafiqur Rahman was delivering his speech. He briefly regained composure and resumed speaking but collapsed again within a minute.
Despite the health scare, he insisted on continuing his address while sitting, as medical personnel checked on him on stage.
In his speech, Rahman reiterated his party`s political vision, stating, “If we get the opportunity to govern Bangladesh, we will strive to serve you instead of becoming masters.”
The rally, attended by a large number of Jamaat supporters, was part of the party’s ongoing efforts to reassert its political presence following years of organizational restrictions and legal challenges.
Party leaders later said that Shafiqur Rahman had been suffering from health issues but was determined to address the rally due to its political significance.
