The tragic crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft into Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara has left the entire nation in shock — and the country’s top cricketers are no exception.
The F-7 BGI fighter jet had just taken off when it crashed into a building on the campus shortly after 1:06pm, causing a loud explosion followed by fire and heavy smoke. The Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) confirmed the incident, stating that rescue operations involving the Army, Fire Service, Police, and intelligence agencies were ongoing. The number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.
As the horrifying news and images began circulating on social media, many rushed to the scene while others, including national cricket stars, expressed their sorrow online.
Veteran opener Tamim Iqbal wrote on his official Facebook page, “Praying for Uttara Milestone College.” Later, he added, “What has happened and is still happening is deeply painful. Our hearts are breaking. We are devastated.”
Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who played in a T20I victory in Mirpur just the night before, was also shaken by the news. “Feeling heartbroken after hearing about the aircraft crash at Milestone School. Praying for all those affected,” he posted.
Wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das expressed his grief too, posting, “Deepest condolences to those injured and affected by the tragedy at Milestone School and College. May they recover from this loss soon.”
Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza appeared overwhelmed with emotion in his message:
“The crash of a fighter jet in Uttara and the terrible accident at Milestone School-College have shaken us all deeply. I am at a loss for words to express my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. Praying for the speedy recovery of all the injured. Let us all come together in prayer—O Allah, keep everyone safe and protect us from such tragedies. Ameen.”
As investigations continue and authorities work to control the aftermath, the entire nation, including its sporting heroes, stands in mourning.
