India sends burn specialists, nurses and equipment to Dhaka

India is sending a team of burn specialists, nurses, and advanced medical equipment to Dhaka to assist in the treatment of those injured in the tragic fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara.

The move comes following discussions between the foreign ministries of Bangladesh and India, BBC Bangla has reported.

A senior official from India’s Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi said, “We are expecting two experienced burn specialists, along with a small team of nurses, to arrive in Dhaka today (Tuesday).”

The official added that India is also dispatching specialized medical equipment for treating burn injuries, and more medical personnel may be sent as needed.

Shortly after Monday’s crash, India’s Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra contacted his Bangladeshi counterpart, expressing India’s full readiness to provide any assistance necessary.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief over the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday evening, stating that India stands with Bangladesh in this time of crisis and is prepared to extend all forms of support and assistance.

Since the incident, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka has maintained continuous contact with Bangladeshi authorities. Bangladesh informed India that most victims suffered burn injuries, and requested the deployment of burn treatment experts, equipment, and advanced medication. India promptly responded to the request.

Diplomatic sources from both countries confirmed that more doctors and nurses from India are expected to arrive in the coming days, depending on the situation.

While India-Bangladesh diplomatic ties have seen a period of relative chill over the past year, observers see this humanitarian gesture during a crisis as a significant moment of warmth and solidarity between the two neighbors.
