Erling Haaland said Norway`s stunning 2-1 victory over Brazil in the World Cup last 16 was beyond anything he had imagined after firing his country into the quarter-finals for the first time.
The Norway striker scored both goals on Sunday, taking his tournament tally to seven and moving level with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe in the Golden Boot race.
Haaland said he had dreamed of playing for Norway at the World Cup but never expected to eliminate five-time champions Brazil.
"I never expected to win against Brazil," he said. "I thought it was not possible to do some things, but I guess I`m wrong."
The result extended Norway`s unbeaten record against Brazil to five matches, with three wins and two draws.
Norway will now face either co-hosts Mexico or England in Miami on July 11 for a place in the semi-finals.
Brazil, meanwhile, suffered their earliest World Cup exit since 1990, when they were eliminated by Argentina in the last 16.
Haaland, 25, has now scored 62 goals in 54 appearances for Norway and described the achievement as surreal.
"To score seven goals for Norway in the World Cup is quite special," he said. "It`s unreal, and I don`t have words."
