BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu on Sunday called on party leaders and activists to remain patient, saying their frustration after nearly two decades of political hardship is understandable but should not lead to impatience.
Speaking at a prayer programme at the Jatiya Press Club, Dudu said BNP members had endured repression, persecution and deprivation over the past 18 years, making feelings of disappointment a natural response.
The event, organised by the Jatiyatabadi Karmajibi Dal, was held to pray for the recovery of senior BNP leaders Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah, as well as those injured during the July-August movement.
Dudu wished the three veteran leaders a speedy recovery and thanked the organisers for arranging the programme.
He alleged that many BNP supporters were denied employment opportunities during the previous Awami League government despite being qualified.
"Those who deserved jobs could not get them during Sheikh Hasina`s rule. So frustration is natural. But our leaders and activists must remain patient," he said.
Dudu also claimed the current government is sympathetic to people who faced injustice under the previous administration.
Urging party members to continue supporting the government, he warned that certain groups were attempting to exploit isolated incidents to create unrest and called on everyone to remain alert against any efforts to destabilise the country.
The programme was chaired by Jatiyatabadi Karmajibi Dal President Salahuddin Khan and moderated by its General Secretary Altaf Hossain Sardar.
