Three earthquakes strike near Bangladesh within an hour

Three mild earthquakes struck areas near Bangladesh‍‍`s eastern and northern borders within less than an hour early Monday, according to seismic monitoring agencies. The tremors originated in India‍‍`s Manipur, the Arunachal Pradesh–Bhutan border region, and Meghalaya near Bangladesh‍‍`s Sunamganj district.

The latest seismic activity came a day after a magnitude 4.4 earthquake was felt in the Cox‍‍`s Bazar-Myanmar border region on Sunday night.

According to India‍‍`s official seismic monitoring agency, the first earthquake struck Manipur at 4:12 a.m. Bangladesh time. It measured 3.5 on the Richter scale, with its epicentre located at a depth of 59 kilometres.

About five minutes later, at 4:17 a.m., a second earthquake measuring 3.0 struck the Arunachal Pradesh–Bhutan border region. The quake originated at a depth of just 7 kilometres, making it a shallow earthquake.

The third tremor occurred at 5:05 a.m. in India‍‍`s Meghalaya state, north of Sunamganj district. It measured 2.9 on the Richter scale and had a focal depth of 10 kilometres.

Earlier, at around 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake was felt in Cox‍‍`s Bazar and several other parts of southeastern Bangladesh. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the earthquake originated near the Cox‍‍`s Bazar-Myanmar border. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
