A battery-powered rickshaw driver has been arrested in connection with the death of a first-year student from Jahangirnagar University.

The student, Afsana Rachi, was tragically struck by the rickshaw on Tuesday, November 19.

The driver, identified as Arju, was detained by university security on Sunday evening in the Gerua area, which is near the university.

He was then brought to the proctor‍‍`s office and later handed over to the Ashulia police for further questioning.

Witnesses to the accident, including pedestrian Nayeem and rickshaw passengers Abu Hayat and Nahid, were able to identify the driver.

When the university‍‍`s security team found Arju, they noticed a fresh injury mark on his neck. Although the driver claimed the mark was from an old injury, a doctor confirmed that it appeared to be a recent wound.

Afsana Rachi, who was a student in the Marketing Department‍‍`s 53rd batch and lived in Begum Khaleda Zia Hall, was hit by the rickshaw while walking on the road.

After the accident, she was taken to the university‍‍`s medical center and later transferred to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, where she was pronounced dead.

The news of Afsana‍‍`s death deeply affected her fellow students.

In response, students from the 53rd batch held a protest march in front of the new Arts Building, demanding justice for their classmate.

The tragic incident has sparked anger and calls for accountability, with students urging the authorities to take action.
